I’ve got a hectic couple of weeks coming up so I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to update the blog. So for your entertainment and amusement I’m posting some hardcore cycling porn. Turn up the volume and enjoy.

The training week so far
Friday – I felt like going for a gentle 10k run but what I needed to do was an open water swim. I ended up swimming 1200 metres in the sea off Shields beach; it took me three attempts at standing up as I staggered out of the water. That’s the beauty of triathlon training; it forces you to do things outside of your comfort zone.
Saturday – 5k run at recovery pace.
Sunday – Rest.
Monday – A very tough interval run. 3 minute intervals at close to maximum effort, off 3 minute recoveries. It’s all starting to come together!

Another music in a different kitchen
Did some interval training this evening then went to a friend’s house and drank single malt. Now at another friends house drinking Pastis 51. Life is good. Time for some music I think.
That’s the Tory party for you
I’ve just read in tonight’s Gazette letters page that a senior local Conservative party activist is outraged at being “fingered”. The sub editors must have been laughing their bollocks off when they let that one through for publication.
Now what was it that Julian Clary said about Norman Lamont...?

DNF
Up until now I’ve never had those three dreaded letters appear after my name in the race results. I’ve crossed the finishing line in a lot of pain before (the two breweries and Snowdonia marathon spring to mind) but up until last weekend I’ve always managed to finish somehow. I Did Not Finish the NYP Ripon Tri and to put it bluntly I’m gutted. My response to that failure has been to put in some killer training sessions this week; if only my body would let me train at that sort of intensity every week.
Luckily I have the opportunity to make amends in a few weeks time when I will be plunging into the sea off the Welsh coast. Triathlon can be unpredictable and has a steep learning curve. I have very little time to correct my mistakes before the next race but I’m determined to nail it in Gower.
Jesmond jihadist
A few weeks ago some bozo from Jesmond with whacky religious beliefs launched an attack on free speech in a letter to the Gazette. I can’t find the link to the original letter but here is the perfect response from Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood.

I’m back
Blogging has been a bit scant recently. Unfortunately the thunder storm that poured through the ASDA roof also flooded some of the classrooms at
