The training week so far

Friday – I felt like going for a gentle 10k run but what I needed to do was an open water swim. I ended up swimming 1200 metres in the sea off Shields beach; it took me three attempts at standing up as I staggered out of the water. That’s the beauty of triathlon training; it forces you to do things outside of your comfort zone.

Saturday – 5k run at recovery pace.

Sunday – Rest.

Monday – A very tough interval run. 3 minute intervals at close to maximum effort, off 3 minute recoveries. It’s all starting to come together!

Glad to see you back in the running. Interval training, no there's a thought. Is that something you do instead of queuing for ice cream?

The size of my stomach suggests I’ve been queuing far too often for ice cream!
When I saw the footage of that water spout in the Bristol Channel the other day I was relieved that the triathlon hadn’t been on that day.
